All about Somerset
activities
Activities on Somerset programmes utilise the amazing river, bushland and open green spaces of the valley, as well as the terrific infrastructure that Somerset has been able to build up over 30 years. Activities are scheduled into a programme to best facilitate the schools required outcomes for the camp. Broadly, activities are grouped into the following five categories, and programmed accordingly:

On The Track – Provides the means to travel between campsites, activity areas and establish a journey for the programme. Somerset has a myriad of established walking tracks and routes criss-crossing our programme area. Walks range from a few minutes, to a few days. Groups can walk completely self sufficiently, carrying all of their equipment, or just with the bare essentials like water and snacks. Educational and interpretative content can be worked into all On the Track activities. The more open atmosphere created during a walk, makes for outstanding group interactions and team development.

In The Water – Taking advantage of our location, on the door step of the sensational Colo River, known as the last pristine river in NSW, all programmes engage in some On The Water Activities. Canoeing is either a means of travel between Campsites, or an opportunity for some games, skill development and lots of fun. Groups can also move between campsite, floating on tyre tubes down the river, or engage in fun water based activities on our sandy beaches.

Roping Challenge – Providing the perfect environment for individual students to challenge themselves, and groups to support their teammates. Our Challenge Ropes Course, Natural Abseiling and Rock Climbing Sites as well as our Milk Crate Climb, all provide the opportunity for students to choose a level of challenge that will best benefit themselves.

Team Adventure – We acknowledge the importance of team building and developing communication skills in any Outdoor Education Programme. As such, Somerset has a terrific range of Team Adventures to complement any programme, from our Obstacle Course and famous Wombat Hole, Raft Building and fixed Initiative Course to a range of simple portable activities that can be run anywhere.

Time to Play – We also recognise the powerful importance of the ‘in between times’ and ensure that in all programmes, there is time for a swim at the end of the day, a game of frisby in the river, or time to simply sit around the campfire, reflect on the days programme and communicate amongst the group.
