Outdoor Learning Centre North West of SydneyWelcome to Somerset
Outdoor Learning Centre

Somerset Outdoor Learning Centre has been offering outdoor experiences to school students and Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme participants since 1980. As an industry leader with over 30 years of experience, Somerset Outdoor Learning Centre offers a unique blend of learning experiences and outdoor facilities delivered in a professionally managed outdoor education program. We specialise in providing outdoor experiences for schools and Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme participants.

Somerset Outdoor Learning Centre offers a unique blend of tent camping options; we do not accommodate students in dormitories or cabins, the Somerset experience is designed to provide ample opportunity for students to engage with their natural surroundings. We provide opportunities for students to explore the value of community, develop leadership abilities and express their spirit of adventure under the supervision of skilled and qualified outdoor educators.

Somerset Outdoor Learning Centre owns over 500 acres of land in the picturesque Colo River Valley, just over an hour North West of Sydney.  The majority of our programs are conducted on the Somerset property. For our longer expedition based programs we also have licensed access to the nearby Wollemi National Park. Our tent camping facilities begin at our Base Camp area, with floodlights and hot showers, then extend to our Uralba campsites, away from Base Camp but well appointed and serviced by vehicle, and further into the National Park for Expedition, self sufficient experiences.

Somerset Outdoor Learning Centre develops a unique programme for each school, designed to meet the outcomes and sequence desired. Programmes comprise a combination of the following Activity Groups:

  • On the Track – Bushwalking and Expeditions moving between campsites

  • In the Water – Canoeing, Airbedding, Raft Building and of course Swimming

  • Roping Challenge – Natural Abseiling and Rock Climbing as well as Challenge Ropes Course

  • Team Adventure – Obstacle and Initiative Courses, Adventure Games and Team Development Activities

  • Time to Play – Campfires, Cooking and Games as well as Structured Free Time
